Configuring MS-HSM

Define a Managed Server

Click on the 'New Server' icon then simply enter the IP address or DNS entry for the managed server, the server name and the operating system (Windows or Netware).
Save the details, then highlight the row in the server table that contains that server, and press the 'Select to Manage' button to setup policies and schedules for that server.
You can then access the Rules/Policies, Sources and Monitor windows for that server.

Start with the 'SOURCES' Window.

You use the source screen to define what data gets migrated and where it gets migrated. These definitions are called the 'profile' To add a new profile you need to input the volume name you are migrating from and the profile name

Adding a new profile

Then you get the option to add a new include path. An include path is simply a path name to a directory that you want to migrate data from. You can just specify an entire disk

Adding a new path

If you click on the define new path button the available disks are displayed and if you click on a disk, the directory opens as below

Selecting data to be managed

Highlight the directory that you want managed then click on the green arrow to include it on the right hand window. You can process several directories at a time.
You can add wildcards to exclude certain class of file, for example to exclude all exe files from migration click on the add wildcard button

Using the wildcard window

And you get another window that lets you define exclude filters. The filter below is for .exe files

Using the exclude filter window

Now you have decided what data to migrate you need to define your migration target

Connecting to the HSM Store

You use the next screen to establish security between the managed server and the target server. You need a Netware userid that has sufficient access to the managed data. You must specify this userid in the format below, in the USERID field specify

 CN=xxxx.OU=xxxx.OU=xxxx

In the context field specify

 O=xxxx

Next you need to define the migration schedules and disk management criteria from the Roles/Policies window. The image below is shrunk to make it fit a window, and so little detail can be seen. Click on the image and a full size picture will open in a new window.
Be aware that if you have large text size set as your monitor preference then the edges of the GUI are off the screen. This means that some fields cannot be seen.

Migration can be triggered either a scheduled event, or by a disk hitting an emergency threshold
